What is Container VGM?
Container VGM refers to the total weight of the verified cargo container, and VGM is the abbreviation of the Verified Gross Mass. The total weight of the cargo container is the weight of the cargo package (including pallets, cartons, reinforcement materials, etc.) The empty container weight of the container (tare weight marked on the box).
Currently, shippers can obtain the container VGM by the overall weighing method or the cumulative calculation method:
Overall weighing method:Weigh the cargo container as a whole using a scale certified and certified by the Metrology Technology Agency.
Cumulative calculation method:Weigh the weight of all packages and goods in the container by the weighing method approved by the competent authority of the country where the container is located, and calculate the overall weight of the cargo container by adding the weight of the chassis, pads, other fastening materials and the container itself.
The shipper is required to make a container VGM declaration, I .e. indicate on the transport document.Container VGM data, verification methodand Verification StatementSuch as verification information, provided to the carrier, port operator.
